A Warm Welcome To Norwich Venta Probus Club…

Where Friendship Beats Formality

Would you like to maintain professional friendships after retirement? Then Probus is the solution.
Those approaching retirement will commonly ask themselves two questions:

1. Will I miss work and the office?
     and
2. Will I miss socialising with my professional colleagues?

If the answer to the first question might be ‘not much’ (!), many will answer ‘yes’ to the second fearing that, without business to bring to the conversation, their invitations to lunch might slowly start to dry up.  If that thought has crossed your mind but you haven’t quite known how to address it, then joining Norwich Venta Probus Club is the ideal answer.

Join Venta Probus Club

Membership is open to retired (or partly retired) professional and business men and the sole aim is to enhance the social life of members through regular meetings over a good lunch. Lunch is usually followed by a short presentation from a guest speaker afterwards.

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • We normally meet at ‘12 noon for 12-30 p.m.’ on the third Wednesday of each month. Our meetings are currently limited to men only but we also hold two ‘Ladies Lunches’ each year-usually in May and on the second Wednesday in December-when wives, partners and women guests are invited to join us.

  • When attending your first meeting, our President will be at pains to introduce you to as many of the existing members as possible and to make you welcome. Your first lunch will be as our guest, and will be paid for by the club notwithstanding that you might not yet have decided to become a member . We normally sit down for lunch at 12-30 p.m. for a club toast followed by a two course lunch with coffee. Lunch is then followed by any club announcements and, usually, by a talk of around 40 minutes by a guest speaker organised by the President. Meetings usually finish around 3 to 3-30 p.m.

  • We normally anticipate around 20-25 members to attend our regular lunches although this obviously increases to between 35 and 50 for ‘Ladies Lunches’.

  • The current membership fee is £35 per year and is designed to cover the cost of speakers, tips and incidental costs such as insurances and a sparkling wine reception for the ‘Ladies Lunches’. The cost of lunches for 2025/6 is £27 for each lunch attended and is payable by cheque on arrival.

  • The club organises an annual golf championship, commonly held at Eaton Golf Club around August-September each year. Members are also encouraged to come up with ideas for club activities which may be of wider interest. No events are currently planned but possible visits to the Norfolk Cricket Festival and to Gt Yarmouth Races have been put forward for consideration.

  • Members are encouraged to wear a jacket and tie for our lunches but the rule may be relaxed on exceptionally hot days at the discretion of the President.

  • The word ‘Probus’ stems from a shortened combination of ‘Professional’ and ‘Business’. The majority of our members tend to come from professional or business backgrounds but there is no hard and fast rule and our doors are open to all retired gentlemen who are interested in spending time over a good lunch in entertaining and relaxed company.

  • The club’s affairs are conducted principally through a lively and enthusiastic committee of eight members elected annually at the A.G.M. Major decisions affecting the future or constitution of the club are, however, put to the members in general meeting of which appropriate notice is given. A detailed questionnaire on a wide range of issues was recently completed in order to guide the committee on matters of direct relevance to members such as the criteria for membership, the quality and cost of lunches and the level of interest in a broad range of outside activities.

The club is non-political, non-denominational and, save in exceptional circumstances with the approval of the committee, is not involved in any charitable activity.
